To address both the physical and spiritual needs of the people in our city by meeting our unhoused neighbors where they are and demonstrating that they are valued and cared for.
our mission
our vision
To promote the restoration of community in and uphold the dignity of our neighbors experiencing homelessness in Downtown Denver.
Homelessness is an issue all across America, but it’s especially bad here in Denver. Since 2016, there has ben a 58% increase in homelessness, resulting in 9,065 people without stable housing as of 2023. Homelessness in Denver also has a high human cost, particularly in deaths by drug overdose and violence. One in every 21 of Denver’s unhoused persons died in 2022. The Downtown Denver area is one especially impacted by homelessness. Here are some more staggering statistics to help you get a better idea of the epidemic that is homelessness in the Denver area.
HOMELESSNESS IN DENVER
We believe that every person on this planet is an image-bearer of Christ- a human being with so much inherent value and a crucial belonging in their community, no matter their housing situation.
We believe that no one person is more important than another, that every human being is a child of God designed perfectly and with intention.
We believe that treating our unhoused neighbors with dignity, respect, and love is our duty as professing followers of Jesus Christ.
We believe that God sees all our sins and struggles the same and do not pass judgements or make assumptions about how they got to where they are now.
We believe that just because someone is on the streets, they are not less worthy of having access to basic human needs and the opportunity to have choice.
We believe that these people deserve intentional encouragement, supplies, and nourishment prepared for them with love and care, not leftovers and second-bests.
We believe that though we might not be able to fully change someone’s situation, we can impact their lives
We believe that it is equally a blessing to serve others as it is to be served ourselves, and that God can use these opportunities to soften our hearts towards things that are of Him.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
My name is Christina. I moved from NYC to Denver in October of 2022 and didn’t have anyone here that I knew, but have always had an unshakeable sense of duty to love those experiencing homelessness like Christ would. Living in NYC, I didn’t often feel safe in my interactions with those experiencing homelessness, but hated how much a handful of bad experiences made me want to go against the strong conviction I had in my heart to serve them.
When I moved to Denver, I had to pass the Colfax/Broadway bus stop every time I came home- if you haven’t seen it yourself, it’s a downtown public transit stop at which a huge amount of low-income and/or unhoused people congregate. The area is visited frequently by law enforcement and has gotten a bad reputation for lack of safety.
Despite this reality, every time I would pass the bus stop, I felt an inexplicable obligation to finally act on the conviction God gave me my whole life and serve them. After a couple months of living here, I was still getting plugged in, so I sent out messages to different church groups I had attended, asking for volunteers to help with making food and handing it out to our neighbors downtown.
Long story short, I was blown away by the willingness of people I had never previously met to gather for what turned out to be 9 hours (the first time! we’ve ironed out the wrinkles since) to give of their time, treasure, and talent to reach our unhoused neighbors in Downtown Denver. Since that first day, December 17, 2022, we have had 8 outreach days and served 770 people with food, water, hand-written notes of encouragement, and genuine conversation.
It has been an indescribable blessing seeing the hearts of stranngers-turned-friends wholeheartedly serving and sacrificing- and experiencing true joy in the process. Our ministry is ever-growing and getting more efficient by the day.
Whether your gifting is in preparing food, leading conversation, writing notes, praying over our neighbors, gathering supplies, or garnering support, you are an integral part of this ministry- NONE of this would happen without you. Thank you so much for your willingness to love your neighbor and fulfill the law of Christ.
how we got started
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”
